We followed all the directions, and took a full month to aclimate our Jack Russell Terrier to this trimmer. First, we were supposed to let it run while we gave him a treat. Then we turned it on but didn’t use it on him. Finally, after being very patient, we tried using it on one nail. He still freaks out. To make matters worse, it barely works. My husband held him while I tried to trim one nail. The wheel kept stopping when we applied the nail. It would have taken a half hour, and our dog would never have been able to take it. We wanted this because our dog has some nails that are dark, so it’s hard to see the quick, and we’re afraid to hurt him. If this actually worked, we might have kept at it, but it’s junk.

I purchased this product from a local pet store and have used it on my mini dachshund.. She sits there and tolerates it just being a little nervous at times but overall not a trying experience like so many others. I’ll agree the motor is on the weak side and being battery operated didnt help. I can trim all her nails in under 10 mins. If you press too hard the motor WILL stop… However i dont think you are supposed to apply a ton of pressure to the nail anyways. Lightly grind away at it in layers and your results will be consistent every time. I’ve used it now about 4 times and instead of using the crappy discs they come with i’ve made one out of diamond coated material. Now it grinds really really fast. I have to be careful or it will “quickly” ruin her quick. In any event the product is better than some of the other infomercial products i’ve tried. I cant see using this on any breed larger than 35lbs though.
